Up and coming cutting edge, London-based duo Othon & Tomasini, have thrilled audiences all over Europe with their electric, unorthodox performance style. Othon’s uncompromising songwriting and virtuoso piano playing perfectly match Tomasini’s staggering 4 octave range and idiosyncratic theatricality. They mix and tease cabaret, pop and punk with opera histrionics and post romantic melodrama, moving from the darkest corners of the psyche to the most joyous spaces of the human heart.
Othon’s first album, which includes performances by Tomasini, Marc Almond and David Tibet (of Current 93) was released in 2008 to huge critical acclaim. His second album, with Almond and Tomasini back as guest singers, this time alongside Irish diva Camille O’Sullivan, is set for a 2011 release. Othon & Tomasini also feature on the soundtrack of Bruce La Bruce’s movie “Otto; or, Up with Dead People” and have perfomed live on Spanish National Radio.
Having notched up a strong European following, their appearances in London so far include a performance at the 2008 London Fashion Week (for head-designer Nasir Mazhar), a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall last year and a spot at the Roundhouse where, as Marc Almond’s special guests, they performed before a captive audience of 3000. In 2010 they made their West End debut at the Leicester Square Theatre and played to capacity at the National Portrait Gallery. They now bring their explosive, alternative repertoire to the historical Teatro Lara in Madrid on November 15 and Teatro Jofre in Ferrol on November 17.
Othon & Tomasini are Greek composer/pianist Othon Mataragas and Italian actor/singer Ernesto Tomasini.
Othon performed as a child prodigy on Greek Television and won several national piano competitions. In 1997 he moved to London to study piano at the Royal College of Music and composition at Trinity College of Music, winning, in 2005, the John Halford Prize as a pianist. He has collaborated with several artists from different disciplines including bands (Current 93, Black Sun Productions), fellow composers (Peter Christopherson, Stephen Montague) and performance artists (Ron Athey, David Hoyle). www.othonmataragas.com
Born in Italy Ernesto Tomasini is often described by the international press as “a cult figure”. After a 25 year career in show business (London’s West End, Off-West End, experimental theatre, the Lindsay Kemp Company, his own productions, variety, television, radio and films) he started to lend his wide vocal range to “alternative music” projects. He is singer/songwriter of the band Almagest! and has had 5 albums released on prestigious indie labels. “We dream in colour”, is the title of the new Live music project, curated by six d.o.g.s (www.sixdogs.gr) and Angelos Petroutsas (Prince of Poverty), that consists of seven live concerts in the Gig Space of six d.o.g.s venue in Athens Greece, one each month, starting from February 2011, of seven music artists, and the release of seven 7” byTourette Records, USA (www.touretterecords.com), in which the artists shall compose original score for the project. Each month, and each artist has been assigned with one colour.
A “journey” from the moon to the sun, from silver to orange, a colour of the spectrum of the rainbow has been chosen and assigned to each artist and all together form a musical bridge of colours that starts from Athens and leads into dreams and sharing them with catalyst and compass the music.

“We dream in colour”, είναι ο τίτλος του νέου Live μουσικού project, σε επιμέλεια six d.o.g.s και Άγγελου Πετρουτσά (Prince of Poverty), το οποίο περιλαμβάνει επτά ζωντανές συναυλίες στο Gig Space του six d.o.g.s, μία κάθε μήνα, από τον Φεβρουάριο, από επτά μουσικoύς “καλλιτέχνες” από το εξωτερικό, τόσο της Avant Pop/Post Industrial σκηνής των 80s+90s όσο και της σύγχρονης ηλεκτρονικής πειραματικής, καθώς και την κυκλοφορία επτά ισάριθμων 7” βινυλίων από την Tourette Records, Η.Π.Α (www.touretterecords.com), στα οποία οι καλλιτέχνες θα συνθέσουν πρωτότυπη μουσική για το εν λόγω project. Ο κάθε μήνας, και ο κάθε καλλιτέχνης σηματοδοτείται από ένα χρώμα.

Ένα «ταξίδι» από το φεγγάρι στον ήλιο από το ασημί στο πορτοκαλί, ένα χρώμα από το spectrum του ουράνιου τόξου έχει διαλεχτεί για κάθε καλλιτέχνη και όλα μαζί σχηματίζουν μια μουσική γέφυρα από χρώματα που ξεκινά από την Αθήνα και οδηγεί σε όνειρα με καταλύτη και πυξίδα τη μουσική.
Το κάθε 7” βινύλιο θα κυκλοφορήσει σε αντίστοιχο χρώμα σε περιορισμένη συλλεκτική έκδοση των 250 αντιτύπων και την καλλιτεχνική επιμέλεια αυτών έχει κάνει ο Πίνδαρος Χαρισσιάδης (www.arsondpi.gr), εκ των οποίων τα πρώτα επτά θα κυκλοφορήσουν σε μια συλλεκτική έκδοση σε κουτί – κυψέλη μελλισών από μαύρο plexi-glass σε επτά αντίτυπα με έργα καλλιτεχνών, τα ονόματα των οποίων θα αποκαλυθφούν σε όποιους αγοράσουν αυτά.

Ο Ivan Pavlov (Иван Павлов), γεννήθηκε στη Ρωσία αλλά από το 1995 ζει και εργάζεται με έδρα τη Σουηδία, και ως μουσικός δημιουργεί με το καλλιτεχνικό όνομα COH από το 1998.
Ο COH ενεργό μέλος και ένας από τους κύριους εκπροσώπους της ηλεκτρονικής πειραματικής μουσικής σκηνής έχει συνεργαστεί με δισκογραφικές όπως raster-noton, Mego, Eskaton, Staalplaat.
Η μουσική του μπορεί χαρακτηρίζεται από τον έντονο συναισθηματισμό, που ποικίλει από έντονα κωμικά σε έντονα λυρικά στοιχεία. Στο πέρασμα των δέκα και πέρα ετών που δημιουργεί ως COH έχει συνεργαστεί με την αφρόκρεμα της πειραματικής μουσικής σκηνής, με καλλιτέχνες όπως τους Coil, την Little Annie, τους Cyclobe, τον Richard Chartier και την Cosey Fanni Tutti.
Με τον Peter Christopherson [ex-Coil, Throbbing Gristle] δημιούργησε ένα παράλληλο μουσικό σχήμα, το SOISONG, www.soisong.com , με το οποίο είχαν επισκεφθεί την Αθήνα ξανά πριν χρόνια.
Επιστρέφει την Πέμπτη, 17 Μαρτίου στην Αθήνα, για μια ζωντανή συναυλία στο six d.o.g.s στα πλαίσια του project “We Dream In Colour” με το χρώμα κίτρινο, για το οποίο συνθέτει και πρωτότυπη μουσική σε στίχους της Little Annie, που θα κυκλοφορήσει και σε 7” κίτρινο συλλεκτικό βινύλιο από την Tourette Records (USA) (www.touretterecords.com ).

Matteus
--
Πίσω από το όνομα Matteus κρύβεται ενα one man band που κινείται στα όρια του avant-garde με έντονα στοιχεία ηλεκτρονικού πειραματισμού. Ο Matteus χρησιμοποιεί ως βάση την ανθρώπινη φωνή σε συνδυασμό με samples από φυσικά όργανα, πιάνο, και heavy keyboards. Στοιχειωμένες μελωδίες και noise περάσματα σκιαγραφούν την εικόνα ενός άκρως σκοτεινού - μυσταγωγικού project.
Η πρώτη επίσημη δισκογραφική του δουλειά, το Ε.P "Silent Radiowaves", παρουσιάστηκε στο Μικρό Μουσικό Θέατρο στα πλαίσια του φεστιβάλ πειραματικής μουσικής "Danke Frau Fott" το 2005 μαζί με τους Trypanosoma και Ding An Sich και απέσπασε πολύ καλές κριτικές. Ο Matteus έχει συνεργαστεί με την Stina Nordenstam (Σουηδία) στη δημιουργία ενός scrapbook ποίησης και φωτογραφίας για τον δίσκο "The World Is Saved" , καθώς επίσης και σε άλλα ανεπίσημα project όπως την δημιουργία της μικρού μήκους ταινίας + the soundtrack (Living With Ghosts) με θέμα το υπερφυσικό.
Ο ίδιος λέει για τη μουσική του:
Η αποστολή μου είναι να κάνω τον ακροατή να σκεφτεί. Ξέρω ότι δεν φτιάχνω μουσική που θα ακούσει κάποιος σε ένα club ή στο ραδιόφωνο. Για μένα τα πάντα βρίσκονται στο να ταξιδεύεις και να ανακαλύπτεις. Να ταξιδεύεις στα πιο σκοτεινά μέρη του μυαλού, σε μέρη που δεν έχεις ξαναπάει ή δεν φαντάζεσαι ότι υπάρχουν είτε έξω, είτε στον δικό σου εσωτερικό μικρόκοσμο. Αυτό είναι για μένα το σημείο μηδέν όπου το λαρύγγι μου έχει πράγματα να πει.
To album του Matteus για την οριλά (Μάης 2010) ηχογραφήθηκε τα προηγούμενα δυόμιση χρόνια μεταξύ Αθήνας και Ισλανδίας. Concept της δουλειάς αυτής είναι να διαπραγματευτεί θέματα όπως η αγάπη, τα συναισθηματικά breakdowns, ο χωρισμός, η απομόνωση και η ευτυχία. Ο Matteus παίρνει το ρόλο του πελάτη σε ένα κατάστημα με κούκλες και η κάθε κούκλα έχει τη δικιά της ιστορία να πει για το πώς έφτασε στο ράφι της βιτρίνας ή ακόμα και πως κατέληξε εκεί. Η αγορά μιας κούκλας και τα λίγα λεπτά μέσα στο κατάστημα μεταμορφώνονται σε ένα μεγάλο ταξίδι με φωνές και ιστορίες, καταλήγοντας σε αφηγήσεις από την κάθε κούκλα - χαρακτήρα του έργου. Ο ήχος της δουλειάς βασίζεται στα ηλεκτρονικά, ενώ ταυτόχρονα το πιάνο, το harpsichord, η marimba και το theremin δημιουργούν μια σκοτεινή, βαθιά, ρετρό μυσταγωγική ατμόσφαιρα.
Ένα παράδειγμα καλλιτεχνικής έκφρασης καταδικασμένο στην ρομαντική αφέλεια.

TRASHY CORD

Oι TRASHY CORD είναι ένα μουσικό σχήμα που βασίζεται στον αυτοσχεδιασμό και στα live electronics. Αποτελείται από έναν εικαστικό εργάτη (for oscillating universe of jot), και έναν άνεργο μουσικό. Ο σκοπός του συγκροτήματος είναι ακόμα άγνώστος και για την ώρα περιορίζεται σε εβδομαδιαία ψυχαναλυτικά sessions στο home studio.

20.1-13.2.2011 INK – The Tattoo Project @ TAF The Art Foundation

Taf in collaboration with Lightroom Projects present the photo exhibition “INK - The Tattoo Project” by Pantelis Zervos and Ilias Anastasiadis, duration January 20th - February 13th, 2011. The show explores the dimensions and meanings of tattoos, as reflected in the diptychs of some 200 portraits.
The mass understanding and symbolism of tattoos have changed considerably over time. The INK - The Tattoo Project focuses on tattoos as personal narrative stories, as a form of communicating a message, as the transition and acceptance of oneself within a social environment. The exhibition presents photographs of tattoos matching the portraits of their owners and invites the audience to observe, to compare and decipher this visual and physical code, and to give their own interpretations.
Pantelis Zervos and Ilias Anastasiadis have worked for 12 months on a common issue - although they themselves do not have tattoos. Ilias searched for the right people and Pantelis shot their photographs. The photographer’s studio was visited by more than 200 tattooed bodies as they shared numerous stories of how these tattoos were acquired.
